Plantronics: Mexico’s Best Place to Work for Four Consecutive Years

Plantronics’ manufacturing facility, Plamex, in Tijuana, Mexico was named as the “Best Place to Work” in Mexico for four consecutive years this year by The Great Place to Work Institute. It is an award that has continuously been certifying the facility’s excellent reputation in the industry and the entire region.

The Best Place to Work Award is given to the facility which ranked first in the survey of the Great Place to Work Institute. More than 500 companies and their employees participate in it considering different measures including camaraderie, credibility, fairness, pride, and respect. The patron of this award, The Great Place to Work Institute, is a company which has been assessing companies’ culture, as well as the trust of their employees in them, for 20 years now. The assessment involves three parts.

1. Survey Methodology- the firm’s assessment process which is the survey part provided to all employees of the company
2. Submission of a system document where the company’s processes and practices implemented are described
3. Experts’ field visit- the maturity and accuracy of the practices and processes described in the system document are verified

Plantronics Operations Senior Vice President Alejandro Bustamante said that they are very proud of all the achievements which the Plamex team had. Furthermore, he said, “The Plamex culture is exemplary, the way we live our values is second to none, and the employee commitment to help deliver great results demonstrates that they are happy with what they do. Plamex has become a benchmark in Mexico.”

Been operating for 40 years and more, Plamex takes care of more than 2,000 employees, and hosts beyond 180 programs which their associates can enjoy. The programs include fun events like the Valentine’s Day mass wedding and also educational ones which can open more opportunities for them. One of the facility’s education program is the educational support program, which has been able to accomplish and help over and above 3,200 degrees.

The real key player in the facility’s accomplishment lies in its Vision, Mission, and Value meetings. The last one takes place weekly that takes up an hour of the leaders’ time in Plamex, where they brainstorm and think of more creative methods they could use to continuously foster trust and respect from their employees in the work environment. An excellent example of this is the different development programs for the employees, which the company has been providing for five years now. It has helped beyond 1,000 employees, in their effort to improve themselves and have professional growth in the company itself. Medical consultations are also held in the facility for employees’ family members.

The great thing about the Mexico team though is that it doesn’t only focus on its employees but also in the community. The management takes part in outreach programs, specifically in orphanages. They also support reforestations efforts, as well as informing people and educating them about recycling. They even give donations for communities affected by natural disasters. Some of the programs they support are the Children’s Orchestra and the DARE Program.
