Synopsis:

Copenhagen Airport chose the collaboration work of Jabra and Microsoft Lync to support the entire communications of their operations. The airport bought 1,000 Jabra headsets to cater to all employees needing the communication for their daily work.

Back in 2011, the Copenhagen Airport encountered its busiest summer ever. At least 6.5 million passengers all in all to cater to, landing and taking off from the airport, it can indeed be considered a drowning number and immense demand to deal with. Most specifically, efficiency and performance of the airport’s sectors like:

  • Employees
  • IT and telephony sound

Normally, a busy airport would invest more on an IT structure, which is operationally effective and well-functioning. And in those investments, security serves as the top priority 24/7. In the Copenhagen Airport, together with his 40-person team of IT specialists, Copenhagen Airport IT and Infrastructure Section Chief Jan Zacho plays the lead role in making sure that all the necessary components in the airport work out.

Copenhagen Airport IT and Infrastructure Section Chief Jan Zacho admits that Copenhagen Airport decided to update their current telephony solution to a more modern one. He said, “We first looked at a range of IP platforms, but soon found that we needed to go in another direction. We chose Microsoft Lync because it was user friendly, easy to access and, not least, met most of our requirements and demands for a modern, future-proof telephony platform.”

Copenhagen Airport makes use of Microsoft Lync now in its facility. Through this software, employees are given access to:

  • Instant messaging
  • Live meetings
  • Video conferences
  • VoIP call

Its Microsoft Lync is also integrated with the following software:

  • Microsoft Exchange
  • Microsoft Office
  • Microsoft SharePoint

Along with the use of Microsoft Lync, Copenhagen Airport also purchased a total of 1,000 professional Jabra headsets, which are equivalent to the number of employees in the airport that make use of PC in their daily work’s operations.

Zacho also admitted that their headset choice was not a random one. He said, “It’s not exactly cheap investing in a Microsoft Lync solution. A crucial part of our choice of headsets was that the price was reasonable, and didn’t tilt the budget. At the same time, it was also crucial that the selected headset was of a high quality, because the opposite would make the total solution seem a little cheap”. In addition to that, he also confirmed, “We found the high quality and reasonable price we desired with Jabra, which was running a special offer on a model that matched our needs and requirements.”

There are a lot of advantages that can be brought about by investing in the right professional headset. One of which is the freedom of movement that employees can enjoy through the use of headsets. This was seconded by Zacho and said, “The purchase of wireless headsets allowed us to provide employees with a much greater freedom of movement. Now, while employees talk on the phone, they are free to move around the office, retrieve a folder from the shelf, make notes on the conversation on their PC, retrieve information for the person on the other end and many other things, which were not previously possible. The investment in Microsoft Lync and our new Jabra headsets has moved our telephony into the 21st century. The way we work today fits the modern airport that Copenhagen airport is and must continue to be.”
